Little Owl
Little Owl
Athene noctua
Found all over Europe including the UK and also in Africa and Asia. Little owls are carnivores mainly eating insects in the wild but will also tackle small rodents. In captivity we feed them dead mice and chicks along with a variety of insects.
- They live for up to 10 years
- Adults only grow to 23 cm long
- Habitat being grasslands and woodland
- Diurnal bird
Crazy fact
Little owls were introduced to the UK in 1842 and have since colonized all of the UK and breed here every year. You can tell whether an owl is diurnal or nocturnal due to the colour of their eyes, if they are dark then the owl is usually nocturnal but if they are orange or yellow the owl is normally diurnal.
